Ametek B/W Controls 8040MD Series Moisture Detector for Submersible Pump Motors

The 8040MD is a conductance actuated control for detection of moisture in the oil chamber of a submersible pump motor. It is used as a warning device to indicate a seal leakage and to signal the need for preventative maintenance.

Normally the oil surrounding the probes in a submersible pump motor is non-conductive. When moisture leaks past a compromised outer seal and into the oil reservoir of a running motor, the conductivity of the oil will change. This will trigger the 8040MD to change the state of the load contacts from their initial normally open or normally closed position.
